The Grama Panchayat has a population of 65,150, comprising 28,530 males and 36,620 females. It forms part of the Kozhikode Lok Sabha Constituency, Kunnamangalam Assembly Constituency, Kozhikode District Panchayat, and Kunnamangalam Block Panchayat. There are approximately 6,000 Scheduled Caste residents and around 17 Scheduled Tribe residents in the Grama Panchayat.
The Panchayati Raj system came into existence following the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment Bills, passed by Parliament in December 1992. Panchayati Raj is the practical implementation of Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of Gram Swaraj and his vision of achieving Purna Swaraj through Gram Swaraj.
